How to study and do well?

Study habits vary by person, but you need to discipline yourself to find hours to study and focus without distractions to draw you away from studying

To do well, you need to seek out the tutors and GA’s and review where you are weak. If you don’t have a strong base in math, you will perform poorly on all future skills in math. You need to automatically get into the habit of knowing which formulas work with which problems. Free tutoring would be the best.

Having solid foundational skills in algebraic manipulation is crucial to calculus at the introductory level. A great deal of differentiation and integration, as well as finding limits and sums is little more than a whole mess of algebra at first.

Keeping up with the class is key. There’s really no ‘magic’ method to succeeding, it just comes down to studying enough to understand that concepts in both conceptual, and applied senses. With basically any math class, it’s important to work a lot of problems. If you start to feel like you’re not understanding a concept, it’s important to ask questions and seek help as soon as possible. Everything in calculus builds on a couple of basic ideas. If you get confused about some of the basics, it’s important to clarify them right away.
