Does applying for fin. aid tell colleges your list

I posted this in the college admissions forum, but after 68 views and no responses, I figured parents would be more knowledgeable about this.

According to this post http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/2423073-post2.html near the end, it said:

'Family is still whining about how having to check off the fin aid box, thereby revealing the list of schools, is what screwed their kid, etc.'

I am worried. Is this true? That applying for financial aid will tell colleges the other schools you are applying to? I am starting to think my deferral might have something to do with me checking the fin. aid box.

"I am starting to think my deferral might have something to do with me checking the fin. aid box. "

or maybe another factor is you are international, and most colleges dont offer FA, or are need aware for international students?

The majority of threads with this question are focused on wondering if colleges can see the other colleges listed on the FAFSA when they retreive the data for their college. If the OP is an international, he/she would not have filled out the FAFSA. The link the OP posted is referencing the fact that many colleges are need aware. OP there could be many reasons you were deferred and needing financial aid is only one possibility.
