Does being shorter affect your job opportunities by much?

I'm of a shorter stature (about 5'6) and I'm wondering whether that is a large factor in job prospects. Let's face it, it is easier for taller people to find jobs on wall street or big business; however, how much does being shorter affect you?

thanks

yessssssssssssssss

You’ll be that guy from the DirecTV commercial who wakes up in a roadside ditch

Go ask Dani De Vitto  His height certainly prevented him from becoming celebrity and a miilionair

Buy Spanish Heels. People won’t notice that they have a heel and they’ll think you wear nice shoes with your suits.

Psychologically, we do picture business people as tall, healthy looking men and women. Often in movies, TV, and books, when business people are portrayed as short, overweight, or unattractive, they have something else that got them the fortune - a powerful personality, (sometimes evil) genius-level intelligence, etc. Of course these are fictitious examples, but it certainly does affect what we think when we see prospective candidates.

Sadly, the less we appear as the average worker for a company, the stronger our resumes often need be to get the job. If the employer has two identical candidates who differ only in looks ,there is a good chance they’ll go for the one who looks the part. People will deny it, but observational research prevails. You must show a lot of confidence and demonstrated success in school to do well.

Stop worrying about things you have control over.
Also, OP mentioned 5’6’’ as being short.
This suggests they are a guy, in which case Spanish heels are unlikely to help their job search unless they’re going for the minority recruitment angle (lgbt). Even then, it’s probably not the best way to show you’re out of the closet.

I disagree that spanish heels look gay. If you were to wear a suit with a longer inseam you can’t even tell that the person is wearing heels.

In what world do you live in?
A guy wearing heels is about as about as out there as a guy in a mini-skirt and tights.

If a company really wants you for your talents I highly doubt they’ll pick a guy taller than you because of your height. I think people will have a better impression of you at the interviews but just remember skills aren’t dictated by your looks. That is assuming it’s more of a typical office job. Some jobs do require looks though which means being handsome and tall is an huge advantage.

For the most part, in industries like banking, law, and retail, it helps to be taller and/or attractive. In technical fields, physical appearance has less of an impact in getting a job. Obviously this is only “in general”.
