<p>Well, if the letter begins with "Congratulations!..", you might hope for the admission
And if it starts "After long and careful review...", the news will probably not be as good as you'd hope :)</p>
<p>I thought you might not need to even read as the acceptances, deferred and rejections comes in different envelope to begin with.</p>

<p>But seriously, Caltech does not provide any hints between the time you complete your application and the time the decisions are mailed</p>
<p>All my son got was maybe an email that his app was complete and email asking for college transcripts and course descriptions for classes that were already listed on the high school transcript they had, until he received his acceptance envelope. He did not apply early however. I don't think they give you much to interpret either way. There is an old thread around here somewhere that describes how they evaluate applications, which he never saw until after he applied.</p>
