Really this is my weakest point, i have a 3.99/4.3 ranking, and my school displays only top 9% on school profile. It doesn’t officially rank As you can see im right at the top 10-11%. My school has less than a 100 people, and is this gonna be a major factor. Please be honest.
Half of US high schools do not rank. That is. Not an issue.
All T20 colleges evaluate holistically. Rank is just one part. But they will compare GPAs if there are multiple applicants from your. HS.
Can you clarify? You seem to be mixing what is typically GPA (3.99/4.3) and class rank (top 9%, 10%) and then “doesn’t officially rank”.
Class rank isn’t typically a mathematical calculation from GPA. A GPA of 3.99/4.3 could be top 1% or bottom 50%, depending on school grading norms.
So my school doesn’t officially rank. However, it does send a school profile which shows grade distributions of the previous year. Based on that profile, I’m in the top 11% because it shows only for the top 9%. Colleges that are ivy based appear on their common data set to take only top 10%. Is this gonna hurt me.
I don’t think that it is that the top colleges care that much about rank I think it is to have the qualities that they are looking for it is difficult not to have a high rank. For example LORs. Unless your school normally sends multiple students to top schools, it is difficult unless you get a best student in x years LOR.
So if my LOR’s are stellar, I’m are safe. That should hopefully not be a problem for me.
Stellar LORs are necessary not sufficient.
So i should apply and not worry about my class rank?
Sure you can apply. But it is going to be anywhere from a reach to a very high reach. Do 10% of students get into top colleges from your school? What is causing you to be at the 10% mark? The top 10% of all HS students is 390,000 students. The number of students that attend t20 colleges is 40,000. What puts you in the 40k and not the 350k?
