Does coming from a UC waitlist lower your financial aid?

My son was accepted to UCSC (yay!) but waitlisted to UCI and Davis. One of our big issues (I know I’m not alone in this!) is the cost of attendance. Our EFC is on the lower side @ $4500 and from internet resources it seems as though Davis and Irvine are more affordable than UCSC?

If he was accepted from Davis’ or Irvine’s waitlist would that mean his financial aid package would be less than if he had been accepted initially?

If a student comes off a waitlist do they quickly get their financial aid package so they can make an informed decision?

I can’t prove this with a source, but given that financial aid is based off of need, it shouldn’t have anything to do with being waitlisted or not.
