<p>Their reasoning for not looking at writing is that it’s very inconsistent and its relatively new, so colleges don’t really have too much data about it yet.</p>
<p>I did hear that they don’t consider the writing but that doesnt mean that you dont do well in it,they prolly will look at it.</p>
<p>Cornell admissions “tries” to not take the writing section into account, but I’ve had lunch with a professor who did admissions work before, and I was curious. Of course, every admissions officer (and even admissions for every state) are different, but from what I heard, they’ll barely glance at your writing score, but if it’s low enough to really catch their eye, then well… they’re not just going to ignore it. It can only hurt you, not help you.</p>

<p>I got an 800 W too, and it brings up an otherwise low/average CR+M (1450 v 2250). If so many schools don’t consider writing, why would they add the section -.-</p>
<p>I’m pretty confident that they do ‘look’ at it - it’s not like they just cover your writing scores when they get your app. If you have a high W score, they’ll look at it and it’ll probably just build a positive record in the otherwise unscientific process of app-reading. If you have a low score, it’ll do the opposite.</p>
<p>Remember how a lot of schools use the W section. While a 500 writing score with an essay score of 5 may not be the ‘official’ reason you were rejected (adcoms have to usually write something out about why they rejected/accepted you for their own superiors), suspicion about your essay’s authenticity may be (i.e. someone who got a 500/5 on the writing SAT probably won’t be producing very many AAA-level essays).</p>
<p>So would a 1600 CR+M really stand out to admissions, even if my writing is 670? I know if someone has a 2400 CR+M+W their chances automatically go crazy up, so if they don’t consider writing wouldn’t a 1600 CR+M be “perfect” to them?</p>
<p>If I have a 550 CR, 630 M, and 690 Writing, would taking it over and just focusing on CR and M be a good idea?</p>
I was really annoyed at this too. While my Math and Writing scores were pretty decent (740 for Math and 780 for Writing), my Critical Reading score was never quite where I wanted it to be (650 for CR). So while I have a 2170, I only have a 1390 CR+M Score. 
Lets hope that they consider it
@dontfeedsparky see this type of judgment annoys me…they will look at it to throw you out of the applicant pool, but they wont use it as a means to help you because they “don’t have enough data points” grr this subject gets me going. I need make some tea
