Welcome back. I guess we are not having coffee at Washington Square this fall (but I ain't mad at ya). Did you speak with your guidance counselor about contacting the Adcoms about your application? Maybe they can provide you with some insight. Do you have any extra stuff to give them. Glad you had a great time in Hanover. I hope they get you off of the wait list also.

I really liked Williamsburg; it's a nice sleepy town with tons of history and great weather (I used to live in Maryland on the Chesapeake). I really hope you end up at Dartmouth, but you've got some great choices already!

Please let me know where you go and what you decide a new haircut is a new life!

haha thanks so much syb and fountain! I did ask my guidance counselor to call D, but I haven't spoken to her since. I said in my letter that if they wanted any extra information to contact me, and have received nothing so far. So i'm just going to send two or so more letters professing my undying love - one about my recent visit, and one that I just wrote, a PLAY about how much i want to get in off the waitlist lol. It's set in my AP Bio class and my classmates are running around the lab tables singing...yeah wow I have too much time on my hands lol

I feel sad that you are not admitted to D blu.... Thanks for all the positive comments and interesting insights you provided us with. I truely wish that you will be able to convince the admissions people to get you off the waiting list. Other than that I believe you will be happy at any school you decide to attend. Good luck!

Blurinka, I really hope whevever you end up going, you fall in love with your school - I kind of think you will. And I will tell you that I know of people who really really love W & M - they find it friendly and tightknit, challenging and fun. Hope you enjoy your vist and I hope in the end your decision is an easy one for you. Wishing you luck with the wait-list and with your decision.

hee. I went to dredge up this thread because I loved it so much, it's really what originally got me interested in Dartmouth in the first place, and maybe it'll convince someone else too. And when i DID find it in order to bump it, the entire last page is devoted to wishing me well. THIS IS WHY I LOVE THE DARTMOUTH BOARD.

Okay so read this thread, it's a good one. I'm going to go find my other favorites too, like the Sexual Attitudes thread and other such brain stimulants. Besides, I'm not totally gone, I may yet apply as a transfer...in which case I'd LOOOOOOVE advice from people like slipper.

I think I should buy a shack in Wyoming and claim that it's my new home :-D. JUST KIDDING WYOMING GIRL! I'm not trying to steal your thunder!

Heh. I just read through this whole thread, and a few minutes later, went to check my mail...guess what, the Dartmouth application for Class of 2010 came today. :)

AHH i love this thread. it'll convert any nay-sayer into a die-hard d fan.

Jimmy, GOOD LUCK ON YOUR APP. Start writing those essays, like, now.

FOUNTAIN! Excited??? when's your DOC trip? keep me posted :-D i'm going to a barbecue at Lena Chuzhina's in like a week...over at YOUR neck of NJ haha

ha ha, if by "wyoming girl" you mean me- then i'd prefer if you thought of me as a "wyoming boy." lol. bluirinka, i may have missed it, but where will you be going in the fall?

LOL nah apppro I know you're a guy. There was a girl from Wyoming though who had the most insane achievements, and I didn't want to discredit them lol

I'm going to Tufts! :-D Even though I'm thrilled and it sounds amazing, I may end up trying to transfer to Dartmouth (the school I thought fit me best) or Columbia (free tuition lol).

SOmeone commented that physics and math are weak at Dartmouth.
Any more info would be appreciated. Also, what is the intellectual climate like? Do students talk about classes outside of class, do people talk about ideas and books? Thanks.

When I went to visit on a Sunday, there were about a hundred people lying around on the green, READING. We passed two guys walking, and one was discussing how Dostoyevsky depicted Russian peasants in his literature. My parents, who were both born in Moscow, later said that that analysis of Dostoyevsky was better than the ones they had heard in Russia. It definitely seemed like an intellectual environment. But it was the friendliest campus I'd ever encountered - every five minutes someone would stop us and ask if we needed help finding anything. I loved it so much. Definitely at least apply, lol
