Speaking of abbreviations...

I decided that if I get in, I'm going to buy the green Dartmouth sweatshirt that just has a big 'D' on the front, because then it can stand for both my name (Daniel) and Dartmouth! :D

haha that's so cute! or maybe it could stand for Delighted (to be going to Dartmouth)

I'm sure it would stand for all 3.

Of course if I don't get in, it will stand for dejected, depressed, downtrodden... the list just goes on and on. :(

all the depressing words start with D, have you noticed?

throw in disenchanted, deluded, disillusioned, deprecatory...lol, dumb?

Hm... I hope that's not a sign!

And I hope I do get in because I really really want that sweatshirt! :p

i'm currently wearing (GASP!) my long-sleeved Yale shirt...b/c i'm too scared to wear anything D, and I know I'm not getting into Yale anyway. lol.

sooooo BACK to the original topic of this thread. I know you D students all endorse the wonderful faculty. But what exactly is it about them that makes them so special?

--blu

Well, just to give you an example, last term I was taking Multivariable Calc and found that the entire last third of the course really blew me away. I had very little clue as to what was going on, and was anticipating the worst for the final. My prof had office hours from 3-5 the day before the exam. I showed up at 3:30, figuring I would ask a few questions, one about a previous exam and then some about the current material, and leave. Two more people showed up soon after me. So we're sitting there, doing problems, whatever. 5 rolls around and the prof doesn't even say a word. At 5:30 he lets out this sigh so I'm thinking, "That's it." He says, "How about a coffee break?" and proceeds to make us all tea and coffee in the teacher's lounge. We get back to it, and end up spending 5 hours studying for this thing. He really, genuinely wanted to make sure that all three of us understood the material as well as possible. After we were done studying per se, we even talked about college admissions and video games. I came out of this very impressed.

wow. yesterday i thought it wasn't possible to love Dartmouth more...thanks for proving me wrong lol. He sounds like my ultra-devoted calc teacher to the nth power.

"I mean I bet a lot of people on this board have an even higher IQ - I'm at 170"

really? is that from a real IQ test or one of those crappy online ones? no offense, its just i thought 170 was like super super genius....i would have expected someone with a 170 to have scored higher than 1440 on the SAT considering how 170 is probably something like top .001% or something insane like that.

Yeah...he was a good lecturer, too, but that really took the cake.

Kosuke - well see the thing is, this was an IQ test that the school shrinks gave me when I was in 5th grade, lol. It has probably gone down since then. You know, all the TV I've watched all these years would surely have caused some rotting. This was after I, the big loser that I am, started a PETITION for more challenging English curriculum. I think that everyone was just extremely bored in class so I was like "Hey...why not do something about it." they ended up improving the curriculum, but were wondering if it wouldn't be a good idea to let me take English and Social Studies in the grade ahead of me; they needed to take the IQ test because I was ALREADY advanced a year, and wanted to know if I'd be able to cope with two years' advancement. So this test was before the majority of my education took place lol. And besides, who knows what kind of crazy test the school shrinks came up with lol.

My SATs suck, for me, though, because I'm an awful test taker. The calc teacher I was comparing Xanatos' professor to earlier made it her goal for the year to get me to take tests well, because I know the material in class...she studies with me the day before every test. I just blank out on things I knew by heart just a day earlier, and have no sense of time and can't pace myself for s h i t. Getting better, though...

Wow... just, wow. I want to go to Dartmouth so bad. :o

my god...ME TOO. i just got back from my interview, and like I said, I didn't think it was possible, but I love it even MORE. GOD. now i think i'll be really...really upset if i don't get in

"i just got back from my interview, and like I said, I didn't think it was possible, but I love it even MORE."

exactly how i felt after my interview. why and how do they do this to us? its killing me!!!!

I know what everyone means, I'm ed 09, not even enrolled yet, and I feel totally loyal and a part of the dartmouth experience. What a way to start a life of independence!

bumpity bump bump bump

bump, just for all of those "Dartmouth or ???" threads. WHY WOULD YOU CHOOSE ANY PLACE OVER THIS?!

aw, this thread! tear it was the first one I started on the Dartmouth board...and then all of your responses sucked me in. THANK YOU.

Awww, Blu, I just re-read this thread... I miss you so much! Keep us updated on what's going on with you.

awww that's the second person that's proclaimed how much they miss me on this board! i love you too, graci.

hmm what's going on with me...well, today we got our Calc BC marking period grades, and I have been doing ABYSMALLY in that class this quarter, just...awful. Suffice to say, I had a 79 average (CRINGE!) but my wonderful teacher felt bad for me and bumped it to an 80. YES, B-! JUSTIFIABLE!!

what else...oh, I'm not so sure it's Tufts anymore, b/c William and Mary is so much less money, and technically it's a 45 minute plane ride with like 88 dollar round trip tickets. So when we go to Myrtle Beach over spring break, we will be stopping by Williamsburg so I can decide once and for all, Tufts or WM. Aaaand, I just wrote another Accept-Me-Off-The-Waitlist-Goddamnit (lol) letter detailing my awesome-beyond-awesome visit this past Sunday.

Oh and I got a cute haircut with bangs! I love all the compliments...lol

HOW IS EVERYONE ELSE?!?!?!
