Does EA help your admission chances at any of these schools?

I'm just wondering if applying early admission to any of these schools would improve my chances of getting in:

MIT
Stanford
Notre Dame

I know that statistically it would help you at Stanford but not MIT (not sure about Notre Dame). However, I'm not sure how to compensate for the fact that the EA pool is probably a stronger group of students than the RD pool.

EA helps you statistically at both MIT and Stanford (doesn’t necessarily mean your chances are better).

But rather than try to develop a “strategy,” go with EA to whichever school you like best. I couldn’t find any statistics for Notre Dame, but I believe both Notre Dame and MIT are not single choice early action, so you could apply to both of those schools early. If you apply to Stanford early, then that’s the only school you could apply early to. Therefore, it may be worth your while to just do Stanford regular decision, unless you know want to go there over MIT or Notre Dame.

notre dame early admission acceptance rate is 50 percent…and it’s not binding so you don’t HAVE to go there

I think applying early EA to schools thats binding helps those who are a more of a match or safety for the university. Those who are reaches for the university, applying EA may not help as much.

Statistically, it does help at Stanford. But in reality, I’d have to argue for the exact opposite.

In the pool of 5363 people applying SCEA, you have all the recruited athletes, legacies, and top-notch applicants who seem to assume they’ll get in. If your application doesn’t match or succeed theirs, I don’t think you stand a good chance.

The higher admission rate can only be granted to the fact that Stanford WANTS more of these poeple, not that you will have a better chance. And, being before the RD round, they tend to deny or defer more applicants because they don’t know whose in the RD or how many they’ll be accepting out of the RD.

And besides, Stanford is notorious for being ruthless in the SCEA…
