Does essay have to be creative and catchy?

<p>Should you college essay be extremely creative and catchy? I'm not talking about a creative topic or anything but about the actual body of the essay. </p>

<p>Is it all right to right about a creative but serious topic, using serious language? My common app essay is serious and interesting but I keep imagining the admissions officer looking to read something creative and funny. </p>

<p>Creative, personal, memorable are some of the adjectives an adcom is looking to find at 3 in the morning when can't sleep and wants to read an essay. If it's different from a cookie cutter essay, that person will have an advantage over other applicants. However, it has to demonstrate a side of you that is not represented in the rest of the application. It is your chance to be you.</p>
