So, I received merit scholarships from a few schools. If I file the FAFSA and my EFC is above the cost of any school in the US, will they take away my merit scholarships?
If your scholarship is a merit award, and not based on need at all…you don’t have to worry about your EFC.
You received those awards based on your stats. If the award had a “need component,” the schools would have waited to see if you had need.
The awards are independent of need.
That said, why are you filing FAFSA is your EFC is higher than the cost of any school? Do you need a loan? If so, just wait to file if your concern is a loss of merit (which isn’t going to happen)
If you have received the merit scholarship even before submitting or verifying FAFSA, it does not seem to have any need component in it. So it would have no impact even if you have no need at all. Nevertheless, some schools may still want you to submit FAFSA.
