Very few US universities specify a minimum GPA. The higher the GPA the better in general but GPA is only one of several factors they consider. The majority of applicants with a 4.0 GPA are denied at Harvard.

Harvard College currently has a total of 6 Mexican nationals enrolled. So, for a reasonable shot at admissions, you need to figure on being one of a handful of the most truly outstanding students in Mexico, or the child of an alum, most senior government official, billionaire or an athletic recruit Truly outstanding gpa and standardized test scores are expected.

Very few schools have hard, absolute GPA minimums. What Harvard does have is a very, very steeply descending acceptance rate curve with lower GPA.

The impression I have gotten is that they’re looking for people with extraordinary achievement in one area, plus excellent grades and scores. People with perfect GPAs and scores who are not URMs are often rejected, while people with very good grades/scores plus extraordinary achievement in one particular area that interests Harvard, get accepted. And then of course, there are the children of wealthy donors, the recruited athletes, etc.
