Hi everyone! I’m new here and I’m a senior getting ready to file my UC applications soon, but I’m a bit worry about my family income because our income is really low and I heard that UCD prefers well rounded students after they look at the academic stats! Please let me know if that’s true and if it will really lower my acceptance rate compared to a more rounded student. I know I will need financial aid but will UCD like that? Please help me out because I really want to go to UCD. Thanks in advance.

The selection criteria for admissions are at http://why.ucdavis.edu/admissions/froshAppCritSelProc.cfm
Having a low income will in no way hurt you chance of admittance if anything it makes it more likely that you'll be admitted.

Nice to see an excited potential '10er. UCD is a great school that's on the rise.

To answer your question: NO. Some may even say that having a low income HELPS someone with admissions. If you have good grades admissions officers often see it as "overcoming an obstacle." But don't think that just because you have a low income means that you can have less than the average stats. Do some research and see the average stats for last years incoming class and see where you rank. Pretty much, having low income either helps or does not affect your chances of admission, but never have I heard of low income HURTING someone's chances.

thanks so much for responding! i'm so glad to hear all of your responses because i feel much more confident now! one last problem i'd like to ask is from this criteria "Marked improvement in academic performance from 9th through 11th grade ." what if my grades were consistent or slightly lower in my junior year in comparison to my freshman year? my cumulative gpa for freshman year was roughly 3.8 and now it's 3.7 sigham i competent enough with that gpa? UCD is the only school i will apply to btw. i wished they had early action. since my gpa is not so impressive would the essay portion be a great help?

blueprints, even if you had above a 4.0 I would urge you to have back up plans for any UC...there are no absolute admissions. Coming from a low income doesn't mean that you can't be well rounded, choosing to involve yourself in something beyond the requirements is possible for anyone. Good Luck. Davis is great...Go Aggies!

one last question. does UCD or any UC want recommendation letters? i had 2 people in mind and now my friends told me they're not gonna even look at it! what should i do?

UCs don't care about letters of reccomendations during the normal application process. The only time you'll need them is if you appeal.
