Will having strong writing skills help me land a ib job? I am trying to perhaps minor in journalsim. I like to write and maybe developing my writing skills will help.

It definitely won’t hurt you at all, but it won’t help much either in terms of landing a job. The important thing for banking is to have good communication skills, not necessarily some sort of proof or certification of those skills (such as a journalism minor/communications degree/etc). That said, once you land a job and start, a strong writing background can help you to land some assignments quicker - such as proofing docs, drafting language around slides, etc. This is by no means essential, but again, it can’t hurt if it is something of interest to you.

Having good writing skills is an important asset. Some banks asked my son to submit writing samples.
A well-written cover letter may get you an interview and also helps organize your thoughts when doing presentations.

considering that you think alot is one word, i would assume those strong writing skills are a bit out of reach

Not for entry level positions or internships. Top investment banks grant interviews almost solely based on GPA. All you need is be able to write grammatically correct sentences (or know how to use the spell check on Word) and express ideas in a direct way.

Not entirely true and I’ve read thousands of applications. Once you have your GPA in acceptable range, cover letters, EC are all important.
