Does taking one of those college "Summer Sessions" help you in the admission game?

Nothing wouldnt help.

yea i've also been wondering about this

A minor amount, unless it is one of the free programs, RSI or TASP and the like, which help some more but do not mean guaranteed admission anywhere.

exactly what are they?

I think what vircabutar is talking about are the summer programs offered by colleges that primarily involve taking academic courses from anywhere between four and eight weeks and garnering credit. They allow one to open up to new disciplines of learning, as well as demonstrate a small amount of intellectual vitality. Most of these programs-with the exception of the programs that are highly selective, such as RSI or TASP-help a small amount in showing that the student is willing to pursue intellectual interest. However, the RSI and TASP programs are much harder to gain admission, and for this and other reasons are seen as prestigious by some colleges; at times this will give a major bump, but at most of the colleges favored here on the forum the advantage is dampened.

oh.

i think UA tried to recruit me for one of those programs... i think it was called the Capstone Honors Program.
