does it matter how long it takes you to graduate?

Hey guys. im wondering if the time it takes you to graduate makes a difference when getting a job? The reason being is because I cant get into a class i need to because its totally full next semester. This class called 300 is horribly hard and only one proffessor teaches it. I can probably get into the class in spring '10. but i cannot graduate until i take 400 and you must take 300 before 400. to make things worse 400 is only offered in the spring. So i face the possibility of being forced to take an extra semester and be in college for 5 years. How will this effect my job opportunities?

Thanks

I don’t think employers particularly care about that kinda stuff. People have many reasons for spending an extra year… they may be in a difficult engineering program, they may be pursuing a double/triple major, or have radically changed majors halfway through, transferred to a different college, work fulltime, etc. I would say GPA is more important, especially if you can graduate cum laude. I do recommend not taking more than 5 years though. ;)

PS: If you’d only be staying for one class, you should contact the department about the potential for independent alternatives?
