does it matter what ap classes i take or self study?

I want to self study these courses over junior and senior year of high school:
-APUSH
-AP Chinese
-AP Stats
-AP Micro
-AP Macro
-AP Comp Sci A

I'm not taking AP Classes during junior year, unfortunately - the two AP classes I wanted to take were APUSH and AP Spanish, but I missed the cutoffs to these classes by only a point or two. I'm also taking AP English?, AP Music Theory?, AP Calculus, AP Euro, and AP Physics senior year.

My self studies are the courses that seem more interesting to me, since I want to be a computer science major at NYU/Columbia? and most of them correlate to that field, and the classes that I'm actually taking also seem interesting, but they don't correlate to my major and they seem like the tougher AP courses to me. However, I'm questioning myself as to what APs I should self study, since I know that colleges use AP CLASSES in admissions and not AP test scores, since the classes I'm actually taking don't really correlate to my desired major as much as my self-studies.

“My self studies are the courses that seem more interesting to me” ← Follow that with any course you take/self study from now until the rest of your life. I took the 6 AP courses i was really interested in.

AP US Gov/Us history/World history/English Lit/Lang/ Env Science. Easy to see why i took the courses i did when you look at them all comparatively.

If you take the courses you’re interested in, you’ll be well versed in the type of person you’d like to become.

But maybe, considering you “missed the cutoff by a point or two”, you could petition the teacher to be allowed in? At least for APUSH, APUSH is an amazing course.

In terms of admissions, although it’s a hindrance for you not to take any AP’s this year, it’s an opportunity to go above and beyond. Inquire about online school AP course offerings. Self studied courses junior year will be noted on your Common App via your scores.

I tried asking the guidance counselor and AP coordinator to let me in, but they said it’s “non-negotiable” and that “the line has to be drawn somewhere”
