does JMU base amount of decisions per field

I was wondering (since I have nothing to do but wait and worry another 10 or so days for decisions!) - does JMU accept certain students based on what field they are going into? For instance, my DS listed on application he wants to go into Engineering or GIS there, so do they look at how many other kids want this field as well and base decisions on space? For instance, 100 kids applied to Engineering, 500 applied to Education. All the 100 engineering kids get in because they have enough slots (new program), and then the only take 100 of the education kids? (make sense?). Just curious.

I asked that question with regards to international business vs. Journalism (broadcast)-the business being a more difficult major there for acceptance. The admissions dept. said because majors aren’t officially declared until end of sophomore year, it really doesn’t matter. Each dept. will take the top students at that time, and then space is considered. However, in order to receive updates from the department you are intrested in majoring under, you must notify that dept. (or put down your interest in terms of major on the admissions application) to receive updates concerning class availability with regards to requirements, aside from the advisor meetings, of course.
