Well darn, I looked at them, and they are really expensive.
Of those, all but UT would likely offer our merit. Run the NPC, contact the flagship and explain your experience and current level. MAKE SURE to get it tested and certified through the program. Because there’s no sat and that level is so unusual, you must have external validation or it may be considered as ‘exaggerated’.
(For readers: Nikku currently is at the mid to end of second year college level in a traditional program. It shows prodigious talent for the language ).
Ask the officers or Americans in charge to give you advice, bringing up the scholarship issue.
@MYOS1634 Since multiple of us on the 2017 parents page have looked at the flagships, I can tell you that scholarship possibilities at any of them are slim for him to bring the school in line with what his family can afford. The flagships are not generous merit aid schools for some odd reason (and it’s worse for some of the other critical languages). OU reserves most of its scholarships for National Merit and only the NMF package would make it affordable but he doesn’t qualify. UT, as you said, is out. Arizona out of state scholarships are also not enough to bring the cost down enough - only $13,000 a year for the top award. UMD, he should give that one a shot. But I don’t recommend wasting app fees on the others.
Okay, thanks @MYOS1634. As far as validation goes, I’m getting an Offical Oral Proficeny test at the end of the program,
administered by the state department.
I agree on principle regarding scholarships, but all I can say is… Talk to the officers /people in charge from the state department about ways to pay for a critical language flagship in Arabic. They’re the ones who’d point you to some alphabet related scholarships.
Will do. The program is almost over, so I’ll have to change to talk to the administration when I get back to New York. @MYOS1634
It’s critical you get that external certification of your linguistic skills, preferably on all 4 skills.
Yeah. Since the program is ascharship, the state department expects results. So when we get back, they give us a standard OPI administered by the ACFL or whatever the standard organization is
I don’t know they would test my reading or writing though. The test is only. Speaking and listening
Speaking and listening is good.
Enjoy our last days!
Hey, @NikkuWadde I’m a quadruplet as well, fining one’s identity as a multiple is a great essay topic and I was wondering what angle you’re taking on it so as to not making the essay sound superficial (thats what I’m struggling w rn lol). Thanks
you are doomed
Your essay idea sounds great! Also, being a URM really helps your case. A 31 is not that bad…just make sure the other portions of your application are strong. Best of luck to you! I might also be applying to Princeton this year.
Lol did you comment on this because you saw that I posted in the Coca Cola scholarship thread @ILoveStanford? I got an ROTC scholarship at Princeton and that plays a role in admissions, so hopefully that helps my case.
