Does my freshman year of high school affect my college chances?
I am currently a Junior. My freshman year was really bad, I had a really bad GPA and I had really bad grades but luckily I didn’t fail any classes in my freshman year. My sophomore year and Junior year were really good, with a good GPA and good act score. And If my senior year will also be good, Will my bad freshman year affect me?
Your GPA will affect your chances.
You will get into college no problem. You just may have different choices of colleges.
UC schools do not factor freshman year grades. Do you live in California? If not, it will be a bit more difficult for you. Some schools practice holistic admissions processes where a strong upward trend will be helpful and viewed favorably but class rank and overall GPA will still have a stronger influence.
Also, “bad” is relative. Some students think one B is bad, others think 2 Ds is bad…
Depends on the school. You can overcome it with a rationale…essay or statement. Maybe not overcome - but explain it.
There is a fantastic and hopefully affordable college for you out there.
I think I read that Emory recalculates GPA without freshman grades.
