Does nobody but natives take the spanish test?

I have to take the spanish test without listening, and I'm just wondering who else (that doesn't speak spanish as their first language) has. Is it insanely difficult like the Baron's review?

Please help a brother out.

I took that test. English is my first language, but I am half Argentine, and at the time I had finished Spanish 4 in school (my school does not teach spanish well AT ALL btw). I took it in June and got a 660. I didn’t study for it at all, but I did a practice test in the Official SAT Sub Tests Book, and it looked easy. It wasn’t hard on the test day either, but I think the curve must be hard because those who take it know enough about Spanish. I didn’t do great, but hey that was my highest subject test score!

I took it today with listening. I felt it was easy enough. I have been taking classes since I was in first grade, but it is nowhere near my English.

I took it today as well. I’m not a native speaker, but I spent a year abroad in Chile so I’m very fluent and had no problem with the test.

I’m talking without listening.

And you all seem to be fluent…I was more directing this to the people that had only learned Spanish in school. I’m in spanish 6 but by no means have I spent a year in a spanish-speaking country. So am I screwed? I guess.

No, it actually might help you. Fluency obtained through immersion in the language isn’t perfect… for a lot of reasons. My grammar isn’t perfect (I have to say things different ways in my head and see which one sounds best), and also I speak a Chilean dialect and there are a few words that are different. And there’s no vosotros, but that doesn’t seem to be used on the subject test anyways.

no the test never uses vosotros…which is much easier than most people think it is. My friend who went to Spain last summer loves vosotros now, but out teacher doesn’t really teach it because it doesn’t seem to be used anywhere but Spain.

I guess I’m in the same boat as a lot of you all. Nevertheless, it is still disconcerting to get 17 wrong on a Baron’s practice test…oh boy…

I am planning to take the Spanish without the Listening section, how do you guys think that I will do if I am fluent in Spanish (native speaker), but never took Spanish in high-school because I am taking Chinese???

I think you’ll do fine as long as you pace yourself and don’t freak out =P

I’m a native speaker (Chilean ^^) and took it in October. I’m taking AP Spanish this year as a senior even though I’ve never taken any other course to prepare me for it, only what I learned at home, and I got a 760. I didn’t study though…but I recommend any little review to be helpful. One practice test and you’ll be set I think =)

Good luck!
