Does Plattsburgh have significant French influence?

According to Google Maps, it appears to be the first decently-sized city that you come across if you go directly south from Montreal. There's the small town of Champlain, but that doesn't appear to be very big. Well, I'd just think that given how Montreal is the second-largest city in Canada, it would be bustling with activity not far from it on the other side of the U.S.-Canada border, but the area looks surprisingly rural. For example, Toronto is pretty densely-populated on the other side of the border. So I was wondering, since Plattsburgh is in a relatively quiet place, does it have a lot of influence from Montreal, since that's basically the nearest major city to the small city, and therefore Plattsburgh gets a lot of people from Montreal? Or are they pretty much separate and just mind their own business?

Plattsburgh students like to take road trips to Montreal once in a while on the weekends.

I don’t know what kind of influence you think Montreal has on Plattsburgh. You’ll occasionally get a Canadian coin or two as change from the stores.

SUNY Plattsburgh offers a Canadian Studies major.

Everyone speaks English :)

Added: Montreal and Plattsburgh share the same frigid temperatures and a love for hockey.

That’s it in a nutshell.

Wow, that influence seems pretty minimal. I just thought that since there’s this huge looming city to the north, and a pretty rural area to the south, that Plattsburgh would rely/depend a lot on Montreal. I didn’t think the U.S.-Canada border would make that big of a difference in terms of culture.

By the way, I looked on Google Maps and saw that the U.S.-Canada border isn’t guarded all the way. Theoretically, couldn’t students just get around the gate and then enter Canada or vice versa without a passport or illegally?

You really need to stop overthinking about these things. It’s Plattsburgh, NY—USA.
You can take a ferry across Lake Champlain and visit Burlington, VT. If you’re into skiing or snowboarding, it’s pretty common for students to drive on the weekends to ski/snowboard places.

A weekend roadtrip to Montreal is always fun–the drinking age is 18 in Montreal.

Students do not seek out places to sneak over the border nor do they ever cross the border illegally. Bring your passport if you decide to attend just in case you want to visit Montreal.

Plattsburgh has anything a college kid would need. It’s not like you have to drive to Montreal to buy things. Plattsburgh has malls, typical stores like Walmart, grocery stores, restaurants, fast food, bowling, movies, etc.

The college ice hockey games are a lot of fun. The students are friendly. The teachers are assessable. The classes aren’t huge. The winters are extremely cold and can range from extremely snowy one winter to less snowy the next.
