Does Princeton check Facebook?

Actually there is a follow up article that is also worth reading:
<a href=“Princeton vs. Yale: Blame the victim.”>http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/chatterbox/2002/08/hack_me.html</a></p>

I am not sure the article cited from the Crimson in 2002 proves “how far Princeton will go” as much as it indicates how lax the security of the decision site was that Yale first used. I do agree that it was inappropriate use of students confidential identity information and certainly should have been investigated, as it was.

@jhenry11 how is checking the internet and Facebook (provided your settings are public and private accounts are not being hacked) an invasion of privacy? The web is a public place.

I think they will only check things that are novel and for applicants who make the final cut – they cannot possibly google 40,000 applicants. Most of the people who apply to Princeton or these other elite schools are wasting their money; you have more chance of winning the Pick 4 lottery!

Instead of changing your name, simply don’t post anything stupid, or objectionable. Keep your business to yourself. There is no privacy today. If you wouldn’t proudly announce it to Mom and Dad, and the Pastor and Grandma in front of the church on Sunday morning, it doesn’t belong on your Facebook or in your life.

Yeah, SURE they don’t check all accepted applicants on social media. Riiiight.
