Does Reed recruit for athletics?

Please tell me it doesn't. So many colleges do, and I've had enough of athletes and their sense of self-importance in high school.

Reed does not.

Thanks! That’s what I thought. I could not find any indication of athletic recruitment at Reed. I exercise and am in decent shape, but I hate the glorification of athletes in high school and want to avoid it in college.

Don’t throw out the champagne with the cork. There are plenty of schools that recruit for athletics but do not have a hero-worship culture around athletes.

Colleges in general have a society that is more pluralistic than monolithic. So even at an NCAA Division I campus, you’re not necessarily stuck on a single hill that has a preordained king. People are celebrated for a wide variety of achievements. You become the king of your own hill(s).

I don’t quite understand why you went to the effort of looking through Reed’s website for their policy on athletic recruitment and starting this thread… Like, what is the point of it? I think you should try to channel your anger at “athletes and their sense of self-importance in high school” into something more productive.

Reed doesn’t have varsity athletics, nor do they give out aid/scholarships for things other than financial need.
