Does the financial aid office already have any idea if you will be accepted or not?

I know this might sound stupid, but I just got excited because the financial aid counselor of a very selective university is being very helpful, could that imply anything regarding my decision? I think that if they knew that I am going to be rejected they wouldn’t help at all since it’s unnecessary.

Not generally, no. The FA office is a completely different office from admissions.

It depends on the school. In schools with need blind admissions the answer is “no”. But in need aware schools it is quite likely. That should answer your question. Find out if the school is need blind or not.

It’s need aware, but I guess it’s better not to get my hopes up… Thank you for the help!

I work in financial aid and am always amazingly helpful … even well before admissions decisions are made. For example, I screen for defaulted loans and reach out to the applicants - often, they defaulted on a Perkins loan they didn’t realize they had/didn’t realize were not included in their current repayment plan. I help them get everything squared away … and I don’t even know if they’ll ever be accepted. It’s just part of what I do. I am sure that’s the case at lots of schools.
