Does the SAT Writing test between might/may?

On this Kaplan question (yes, I know I should only use CB material but I felt like looking at Kaplan questions for extra material):

(If only) the factory owners (had conducted) regular safety inspections (of) their equipment, the horrible accident of 1969 (may have been) averted. (No error)

The answer is (may have been) because the book says that it should be (might have been) since may suggests that it is not sure whether the accident happened or not.

Does the SAT Writing test between may and might? This seems like a really picky difference between the two words, because can't "might" also suggest that it is not sure if the accident happened or not?

I have never seen may/might questions on any SAT II Writing, old TSWE's, or PSAT writing sections.

Thanks ramakong. Any other opinions?

I'll bump for you. I had the same question.

bump!
