Does this help me get in?

I’m planning to apply early decision to Boston University. My brother is an alumni who just graduated this year and my father is a professor at the university. I was wondering how much these factors would actually influence/help my acceptance chances?? Thanks!

“my father is a professor at the university”

This is known as the fac-brat hook – one of the biggest “hooks” extant. Speak to dad and I’m sure he’ll give you the run down. If you’re anywhere near the range of admitted students, then you’re 99.98% likely to be admitted.

@T26E4 Thank you for the reply! Surprisingly I’ve actually never heard the term “fac-brat” but that really helps to reassure me

You should be talking with your father about this rather than asking strangers on CC. Is he a tenured faculty member or an adjunct? If an adjunct then it will be a much weaker hook.

@TomSrOfBoston I will be sure to talk to him. He is a tenured professor

SHoe-in and free for you to boot, but I think BU has a share program with other top schools that allows you to go for free there, your father may be thinking that would be a good idea

By reposting the question, I see you haven’t spoken with your dad to confirm what I posit is a sure thing. Why not?
