Does this help my chances at Middlebury?

This summer I will be going to Paraguay for 6 weeks through Amigos de Las Americas. I will be living with a host family and one other American high school student and we will be building stoves, teaching about environment and health, and working on community based initiatives. Everything done will be in Spanish (or Guarani!!) and I am really looking forward to it. I know that Middlebury is one of, if not the best foreign language schools in the nation, and I am wondering if this experience will increase my chances. I also want to say that I am doing this because I really want the feeling of making a difference in one or many lives, and want to experience a different culture--I AM NOT DOING THIS FOR COLLEGE. It truly annoys me that people are volunteering in areas that do not interest them.

Great, go with your passion! Perhaps a personal statement is lurking here. Have a great time and learn a lot!

Thanks! I’m really looking forward to my experience this summer, and I truly think it will alter my perception of life. Living without electricity or running water–it will be quite a change.

The thing I’m worried about for my application is that while I only do things that I am passionate about and that I have leadership positions in, they are pretty normal activities–captain of the wrestling team (2X most dedicated wrestler, hopefully 3X), president of Spanish Honors society, and hopefully president of NHS. My GPA is 4.0, but ACT is slightly low for Midd-31- and a 2050 on the SAT. Luckily, there are many great colleges out there, and where ever I end up, I know that I will have some of the best four years of my life

Honey, you look fine for Midd. The ACT is %50ile for them, and if you’ve taken the most challenging courses at your school, you look great.
Just let that passion and meaningful community service show, and you have an excellent chance.
No one is a shoo-in, but you look right on. Be sure to show them your sincere interest.
