I just got a phone call from Reed's admissions office telling me that they loved my application and that they want to fly me in for some multicultural visit next month (I'm half black). They wouldn't want me to visit if I wasn't accepted would they?

Haha that’s probably a pretty good sign. Obviously nothing’s for sure until the decision comes out, but I’m with you ;)

You can’t be sure, but that seems like a very good sign to me. However, I was reading on another thread that Bulgarian international student was flown out to Harvard for an interview and meeting with an athletic coach, but in the end was denied… Then again. Harvard and Reed are very different schools. I can’t imagine Harvard calling an applicant and commending their app. Congrats to you!

^Yeah, Reed has pretty limited funds for this kind of stuff. So it probably means something if they’re paying for you hahah.

I’m mostly thinking this because I’m supposed to visit in mid/late April which is after admissions decisions come out. They wouldn’t want a rejected student to visit would they? I really hope that I got in. :)

i got the same call. i took it as good news.
@almost there: hope to see you there!

The multicultural program that happens in the spring is for admitted students of color. Congrats–you’re in!

I applied regular decision to Reed as well. I never got a call. I logged into my Reed account today and the financial aid section had this info:
“The following information is based on your status as a Freshman - Dorm/Board student receiving financial aid for the Fall-Spring Semesters.”
Budget Detail
Budget Component Amount

Books and Supplies (Indirect) $950.00

Board Plan (Direct) $5,500.00

Dorm Room (Direct) $5,960.00

Fees (Direct) $260.00

Incidental Expenses (Indirect) $900.00

Travel Expenses (Indirect) $2,000.00

Tuition (Direct) $44,200.00

Total: $59,770.00

I couldn’t get access to the award letter though, because it was inactive.
I know nothing is certain until I have a decision email or letter before me, but does the above (in " ") signal any positive/negative news to come, or is just a norm for all other applicants/past applicants?

I’m kinda curious because one of the other colleges I applied to only indicated on my account that “The following information reflects the estimated costs included in the budget that was used to determine your financial aid eligibility for the Full Year” followed by the estimated cost.
Any response would be appreciated.

I’m not sure. I just checked and that shows up for me and I got a call but it might just be something that they update for all FA applicants. On the other hand that might be an indicator of admission that they accidentally put up before the notification deadline. I hope its the latter :)

I appreciate ur quick response. I’ll hope (but not expect) that I eventually get in in the end whether it’s related to “acceptance” or not. These last few weeks have been very nervous for me. But I guess all I can do now is to just hope for the best, and wait wait wait wait until that dreaded decision is out.

They update everyone’s FA status shortly before they send out the decisions. It’s not an indicator of acceptance, from what I remember.

@almost there, did you fill out the ROME form (if you ever got one in the mail)? Anyone knows if all students of color are invited even if they didn’t send the form back?

I genuinely hope the FA update indicates admission, or at least waitlist. It’d be counterintuitive if they updated for ALL applicants including the rejected, right? Okay ignore me, I’m on the edge of my seat…

It is not counter-intuitive; the financial aid office, which updates the Banner self-service accounts, processes financial information separately from the admissions office, for every applicant. What would be counter-intuitive for Reed, which is not need-blind, would be to make admission decisions before determining the financial situation of every applicant.

The wait is almost over. Just try to chill out and don’t think about it; this will all be over soon enough.

All I filled out was the application. I just got a phonecall and a couple short emails confirming flight plans for the visit.

@heyhohellno, I attended the fall ROME program this last November and I know for a fact that all accepted students submitted a complete application. It’s proactive recruiting, if you will. For the spring program, however, there is no separate application–Reed independently invites some admitted students of color. In terms of admissions, I think the rule for both the fall and spring programs is the same: acceptance to these programs translates to definite acceptance to Reed, but rejection from (or simply not being invited to) the programs doesn’t necessarily translate into rejection from the actual school.

Disclaimer: This is my pre-frosh understanding of how Reed’s MRC works. Feel free to correct me, current Reedies!
