Does UC Berkeley deserve a higher ranking in the USNWR? There are many colleges that are ranked higher that do not equal Cal's prestige, vast amount of resources, and amazing academics. Why is it ranked lower?

b/c its public and doesnt have the student to faculty ratio or small class sizes or alumni giving rates…

Because objectively ranking schools is essentially impossible, and the rankings in general should be taken with a grain of salt?

Is the number 4 school REALLY better than 5? Will you REALLY have better opportunities at #23 than #26? Will you be happier at #15 than #24? Rankings, in general, bother me. Education and life experience can only be so objective.

It’s lofty rating is based on the prestige, PA score. But, other factors favor private colleges, such as test scores, alumni giving, faculty pay…

Unlike the privates, the UC’s don’t superscore tests. The UCs give big admission tips to low income folks (33% Pell grantees at each campus). Since lower income kids tend to score lower, Cal’s (and other UCs) have their test data skewed downward in comparison to other, private colleges with a much wealthier student body (many of which are 50% full pay).

Because USNews methodology favors private schools.

UC Berkeley should be in the top 10.

Is every one of your threads going to be about how bad Berkeley gets treated in the rankings? I mean seriously.
