Hello, I’m a sophomore in an american school, and I would love to study in the UK… preferably Oxford, although that is a stretch…
I would love to attend an amazing out of state, or even out of country school, but money is an issue… i’m not sure if i should save up for law school, or spend money on a good undergrad? Does undergrad really matter when it comes to grad school as long as you have a great GPA and test scores? Attending a big name school is expensive and i want to know if its worth the payment. thank you!
Generally, no. Particularly for Law or Med School. Those schools use GPA and LSAT/MCAT for admission.
Took out the yelling in the Thread Title
The more selective the undergraduate school, the higher the proportion of students going to the top business and law schools.
However, this is because of the density of really bright students at highly selective undergraduate schools and how motivated they are.
A similar student at XYZ State can achieve the same on average.
Your only alternatives are not to “spend a lot on a good undergrad” or “spend less for undergrad to save for law school”. There are lots of excellent undergrad colleges that you wouldn’t need to spend a lot on, either because they “meet need” (if your EFC is low) or because they have excellent merit scholarships (if your EFC is higher than what your parents can pay). Creating a good college list is,in part, figuring which case applies to you then finding the colleges that are good fits and affordable.
