Title is pretty self-explanitory. Right now I am really stuck between Tufts and GW for undergrad. Tufts is clearly the better school academically, but I live right next to it. I want to live in DC. Does the undergrad school reputation effect MBA admission in any significant manner? also, Do internships help you get into a better MBA program or are they meaningless after 3 years in the workforce?

def go to Tufts,, much better school

Prestgious Internships ----> Prestigous Full Time Job ----> Prestigous MBA

To the OP:

It's not so much that the undergrad school directly matters . It's more that a better undergrad school will tend to lead to better jobs, and a better job will tend to lead to better MBA admissions.

what kind of school do you think I can get into if i was a "normal engineer" at a pretty good company such as Boeing, with a GMAT of 700? undergrad at a top 10 engr school

i went to tufts and will be attending MIT Sloan in the fall...undergraduate prestige definitely does matter. HOWEVER, not as much as it would for med/law school. it's all about how you demonstrate success/leadership ability the few years after undergrad...differentiating yourself from the mass of other smart kids.

take a look at the avg gmat/gpa at the top schools...impressive, but much lower than you might think. many people with 3.9gpa/780gmat are rejected because they offer nothing more than high scores.

I find that hard to believe. Med/law school admissions are extremely numbers-oriented. Especially law school. The truth is, if you have extremely high grades and LSAT scores, you are basically assured admission to at least one of the top law schools no matter how low-tier your undergrad school is.

sakky...that's what i wrote. you misread my post.

Unless I've forgotten how to read English, it seems to me that you are saying that undergraduate prestige matters more for med/law school than it does for B-school. If that is what you meant, then I would adisagree.

yea you forgot how to read English (im jk)...your right he's overemphasizing on prestige

sorry for the confusion...
that's exactly what i'm saying. having been through the bschool application process myself and witnessed the law/med school application process (through friends), there's no doubt in my mind that undergrad prestige matters more for law/med school than it does for bschool. that's my $.02...i'm done with this thread unless the OP wants more info on bschools.

Question: If i had a high gpa in a not so prestigious school; university of central florida, but, I had a crazy high position job and had somone very famous in the corporate world write my reccomendation, do you think that's better than going to a extreme prestige undergrad; Emory, with avg gpa and decent job?

Mreic, the answer to your question is yes, the former will trump the latter.

What do you mean by:

The former will trump the letter

?

You are wrong. It is the other way around. Law/med schools are very number oriented, while B-schools are "experience" oriented.
