I want to apply to WashU ED. However, I qualify for little to no need-based aid and my family isn't 100% comfortable paying $250k+ for an undergraduate degree without seeing my other options.

I know that some schools will negotiate price with admitted students if a student gets a better offer from another school, but WashU (or any school for that matter) has no incentive to negotiate tuition for ED applicants.

So, my question is: Does WashU negotiate price with admitted RD students? I'd really like to hear from parents/students who were admitted RD in recent years.

Thanks everyone!

I’m wondering the same thing! I’m applying ED and my family doesn’t qualify for financial aid so I’m banking on merit scholarships. Does anyone know if Wash U can see if you have applied ED and already been accepted when considering merit scholarships? I feel like they would want to give merit scholarships to kids who have been admitted RD as a push factor for them to commit rather than to ED students who are already bound to the school. Help!

From the WashU “Freshman Academic Scholarship & Fellowship Programs” brochure:

“Students who apply under our binding Early Decision plan may apply for any scholarship matching their academic and extracurricular achievements. Academic scholarships, however, are not awarded until after the Early Decision commitment date.”

So it’s tough for EDs where academic scholarship is a must as opposed to nice-to-have. I don’t recall seeing links posted on college confidential so perhaps they are stripped out, but I will try to post a link to the the official WashU brochure here: http://issuu.com/wustladmissions/docs/fl15_scholarships_brochure?e=3287470/8856387
