Hi,

Does Williams award its degrees as "BA" or "AB"?

Thanks.

I’m pretty sure they award BAs.

Bachelor of Arts, so BA.

The diploma, which is in Latin, says the degree is “Baccalaurei in Artibus.” Of course, the diploma may not be definitive, because it also indicates that the degree was awarded by “Collegi Guilieilmensis”. It doesn’t actually say “Williams College” on there anywhere.

This omission allows the [Williams Shop](Williams Shop online catalog of Williams College clothing and gifts) to do a tidy business in custom diploma frames that do include the words “Williams College”.

There is no difference between B.A. and A.B. degrees. Look at the following

In theory, this is true. In practice, though, the A.B. degree can cause confusion, because sometimes people mistakenly assume that it represents a 2-year associate’s degree (like A.A., A.S., etc). I’ve heard that some 4-year schools have actually switched from the A.B. to the B.A. for that reason.
