Ok so we have to do a research essay on a controversial topic that isn't a typical topic like abortion or something so I need to do a poll. Thanks for answers!

Comments:
i volunteer at the animal shelter, and see a ton of pitbulls come in. they're pretty much some of the sweetest animals we have there, and most people are really surprised when they find out they're pitbulls, because they see how sweet they are. incidentally, i read somewhere that last year there were more golden retriever dog bites than german shepherds, pitbulls, etc combined. might wanna look that up if it'll help you with your paper.

puppylover6464 - It may very well be true that there are more golden retreiver bites than the "mean" dogs combined. However, that stat if true is decieving. There are so many more golden retreivers than those other dogs. Also, how many golden retriever bites end in death? My sister scared a golden retriever when it was sleeping. It bit her; she needed 2 stitches. Real dangerous animal right there.

I would never go near a pitbull. My friend had one and they had to put it to sleep when it went crazy on another dog. If I every see a pitbull, I walk the other way. They are unpredictable and deadly in certain situations. I don't care if the owner is Jesus Christ. Something is messed up with those dogs.

In your paper you should talk about Mike Vick and the whole dog fighting culture because that is certainly relevant to pitbulls.

Thanks guys. I needed the data I could collect in one day. Now the story.

I have a 10 month old pitbull. She is the biggest baby in the world. Pitbulls, like every dog can be trained to be either aggressive or gentle. They, in my opinion, are the most misunderstood dogs. They DO NOT HAVE LOCK JAW. That is a myth. I once had a lab who bit people and had to be put down. It bothers me when people pet her and love her until they know she is a pitbull.

Anyways, my report is based on the misrepresentation of these animals. I understand what some of you were saying about the fighting. I come from the outskirts of Detroit, the largest dog fighting city in America. Here if a stray dog is find that has any characteristics of a pitbull, it is automatically euthanized.

Please take the time to read to get to know a breed of dogs before you label it as aggressive. The media plays up stories on dog attacks simply to get attention. The people I got my puppy from have 4 pitbulls and 6 kids. They are the biggest babies in the world. The youngest child is 4 months and loves to curl up with the dog.

Thanks for your responses. Any more would be great just for personal curiosity.

My neighbor has a pitbull. It seems okay, but they have an underground electric fence. I hear about dog attacks fairly often, so I don't think pit bulls are appropriate dogs, but then again, they seem okay with good owners, barring some aggressiveness.

Never really watched "Little Rascals"

Comments: Pit bulls seems scarier than other dogs, but are (just like any dog) either friendly or aggressive. I've seen many pit bulls in my area (don't know any of the owners) and noticed that none of them seem excessively violent or evil. The dog just gets a bad rap because it looks mean. I'd totally love to play with one!

Sorry I explained the Petey thing in post 3.
A poodle attacked me but I don't hate all poodles (well actually I do but that's cause they all bark obnoxiously.)

Lol Coot if you ever come to Michigan you can play with my pitbull. She loves people.

Haha, sorry things were going on. I thought I did tell? Oh well, Petey was a very friendly dog. He went on all the adventures with the Little Rascals kids. I meant to put in an "I don't know the movie" box but I forgot. They actually cast him in the movie because the kids said they wanted the "smiling dog". Pitbulls are known for looking like they are always smiling.

Comments:
I've got two American Pit Bull Terrier rescues--victims that would have been gassed if not for the intervention of a well-versed private group.

The media is to blame for promoting the genocide of the American Pit Bull Terrier via the distribution of falsified fear. When the lineage was being established, breeders subdued traits of human aggressiveness by destroying the carrier to ensure that it wouldn't be transposed to offspring. They were bred to serve us loyally and fearlessly. Modern day breeders--self-proclaimed lovers of the breed--have paradoxically polluted the gene pool instead of bettering it. They're to blame as much as the media.

Comments:
Like any other dog, of any breed, the owner plays a large role in determining whether a pit bull is agressive or well-behaved. Still, overall I think the breed is misunderstood. Pitties can be lovely, wonderful, sweet dogs. They can also be dangerous. Then again, so can any other breed. I've known several agressive cocker spaniels, and they are a breed generally known to be friendly. Unsuitable owners might choose a pit bull because of their reputation as "bad dogs", and that then helps establish the breed as dangerous. That does not mean that all pit bulls are dangerous or mean!
