Don't Forget to Apply to a "Safety" College

That’s right by where I live! Which program? Tell me more about it…

WHAT!! DO you happen to go to Walnut High??? Yeah! I really love Mt. Sac beautiful facilities, engaging professors, the whole deal! I am actually involved in the accounting program!

Yes, I do go to Walnut High!

I just graduated last year!!! C/O 2014 WOOT WOOT

OMG This is such a coincidence!

Really?! Can you tell me course load you had last year and which teachers you had? Also, can you tell me what were your stats?

I had 5 APs! but I foolishly only applied to Harvard and Yale and I got rejected so here I am at Mt. Sac. But no regrets! I’m actually looking to transfer to UC Merced next year though!

What makes you so interested in UC Merced?

well the beautiful rural campus and I’ve been slacking off at Mt. Sac so I cant get into any other UC LOL

Oh YEAH! GO MUSTANGS!!! WOOOOOOO

How are the guys in Mt. Sac?

what do you mean by guys? the people or the males?

The Males.

OH, they are fiiinnnneneee if you know what I mean ;)

you know from the view of a heterosexual male

What was your first choice of school?

of course Harvard but now hopefully UCR

UCR? Would you choose UCR over UC Merced…?

yeah! all of my friends are at UCR plus they have a GREAT business program!

I applied to 13 colleges, tiered into reach, middle, and safety schools. Got into every single one except one. Didn’t think I would want to go to one of my safety schools because of the lower SAT/ACT scores (I thought my classmates were going to be stupid!), the small size and the fact it was a religious school. ended up going because the small, private school atmosphere. Everyone was friendly rather than competitive, teachers wanted to help rather than weed you out, and the school had a lot of resources for my major. Picking the safety school has it’s perks - more financial aid, being ‘top’ of the class, and being able to slack without my grades suffering (I’ve always been the smart, lazy student). Safety schools get a bad rep but except for a few career paths you don’t have to go to the ‘top’ college. College is what you make of it.
