Don't Grade Humanities As Easy Stuff

i'm going to go to berkeley and if i choose to endure dealing with people like yourself, i may choose to go to law school.

I have people skills, I have an active life, beyond collegeconfidential (you said it yourself, this is where you come when you suffer from boredom and thats just the saddest thing i've ever heard)

I am a balanced, sincere, helpful, and intelligent individual with potential. I've experienced and accomplished things in my short time alive that you can only dream of accomplishing in your entire life

What kind of lawyer do you want to become? The kind everyone hates? The kind who gets a sick pleasure from making his clients feel inferior and stupid? The kind who is despised in social situations for being condescending by nature?

Really? That explains your being at a community college.

Only a balanced, sincere, helpful and intelligent individual like you would assume that I want to become a lawyer.

nspeds, just for the record, had my debate teacher taught us to as cooly disect analyses starting from 9th grade, I don't think I would have lost to those aholes from Glenbrook or Strake Jesuit at the TOCs.

I got in the game too late. Alright, sorry for interrupting; go back to your sparring.

Haha. I'm not sure that logical fallacies are particularly helpful for CX debate.

It's LD, but you couldn't imagine some of the crap that these philosophical wannabes, turning pig-pink with their 800mph spreading, were spouting.

The internet allows one to seem far calmer than they may be in person. When one results in spewing insults, it is often reflective of a loss of that coolness.

Well, I'm pretty much the same in person.

I chose to go to community college and I'm satisfied and proud of my choice.

Only a brilliant philosopher like yourself would be capable of making stupid generalizations about community colleges. I'd list my accomplishments, but your not worth making a list.

Just so you keep your mouth closed about community college students, I'll tell you this:

I'm saving thousands of dollars, I'm taking classes taught by UC Berkeley professors, even on Berkeley's campus, for 20 bucks a unit and I'm going to end up at a school you will never have the pleasure of being accepted into. HAH I can even give you a dose of your own medicine and laugh at the fact that you went to Georgetown, but that would be childish.

nspeds,

My ignorance tells me that there is no standard metric with which I can use to measure difficulties between different subjects.

You did not answer to my questions I asked to you before. Instead, you just repeated the basis of my question.

Let me ask you once again: then what are the reasons that make you think there IS a standard scale? Why should there be any standard scale? Ironically, this is exactly what you are arguing for. Why didn't you answer to these questions?

Your argument:
It does not mean there is not a standard scale just because I am not aware of one.

Let me negate your claim which is essentially what you are arguing for:
It does not mean there is a standard scale just because you are not aware of it...or perhaps just because you believe in it...worse yet, perhaps because you just say it for sake of arguing.

You failed to provide any reasonable evidence which supports your claim.
What can you provide?

Surely, it does not mean there is not a standard scale just because I am not aware of one. But negate your claim and ask the same question to yourself. Why should there be one?

One is to believe there is no standard scale because there hasn't been any so far.

One is to believe there IS a standard scale because there hasn't been any so far?

What are you exactly claiming here nspeds?

nspeds, not everyone is out there to get you. Certainly, nobody intends to harm you or to upset you. Neither do people want to be offended by your personal attacks.

I have never personally insulted you on the forum. And I will never. Why did you have to do that?

Anyone can master the sciences with enough teaching and practice problems, but you can never learn to be good at reading and writing. Excellence in those subjects is not teachable. Case in point: look at the SAT...how many people with perfect critical reading/SAT II Lit scores do you know that got an 800 because they practiced/studied their butt off? Few...most people who get perfect in that section are naturally talented, you just can't learn it, it's that hard. But you can study and get very high math SAT I and II scores. Math is studyable, with enough effort. English, no.

math and english both take practice..

you dont learn math or english by watching others do it/speak it

Eli, my high school was filled with students prepping for SAT english. I have attended some of these programs and they prepare you in extreme detail on what to expect on the test/how to write essays. Not surprisingly, the high school I attended had 4 kids with perfect scores on the first SAT test offered. I don't know all 4, but of the ones I do know, they were tutored massively (by massive, I mean for years). English is very studiable.

wow thats intense lol

I didn't even mention the SAT BOOT CAMPS. Friends of mine disappeared over spring break to attend boot camps that boast being able to raise your score by over 50 points.

As for other matters...

nspeds, you genuinely confuse me.

There's no doubt that you're smart. Based on your intellect and knowledge alone, you could win many arguments and persuade the masses. Yet somehow you choose to insult your own, hard earned intellect by polluting and fogging your thesis with sideswipes.

It's almost as if you didn't want to win the argument, more like you wanted to avert attention to other trifling matters.

EDIT OK fine. I admit it. I just threw out 50, but I know the boasted something with a zero in there....haha.

Just 50? I teach prep at a program where students were guaranteed a 200 point increase on the old SAT and are guaranteed a 300 point increase on the new SAT. In a given year, of the 5 or so students in my major city that earn a perfect score, 4 or all attend this program.

The provision is that it doesn't take you from a 2100 to a 2400, but a comparable number. In fact, a student I privately tutor just boosted her score from a 1950 to a 2230. I think it's because I own the CollegeBoard. She thinks it's because I'm crazy good. It works both ways. =)

obviously not (10 char)

Do not even start me on that pablum you posted above.

Oh, darling, is "pablum" too big of a word for you? Gosh, I guess I'm just lamenting the fact that I will never (willfully) attend Cal. Yeah, that must e it.

Don't pay attention to nspeds' ramblings about community college. He often brings that factor up when:

1) He is offended.
2) He is at a loss for words.
3) He is just plain tired of the argument.

We mustn't forget where we come from, right nspeds, since you started at G-Town? It is no matter though. Many of us here on CC that are at community colleges will also be at prestigious universities like yourself in due time. But ilovecali, some of the things you say are equally offensive and ill-conceived, so don't be shocked when nspeds makes an undesirable response. Overall, I have found him to be very helpful and, though I've had particular disdain for him in the past, now consider him to be an alright person. Nspeds, despite whatever arguments we may have in the future (and we can rest assure of that premise), I have appreciated your help on here and have learned quite a bit.

Eli - I certainly disagree. English is not difficult to learn for most - I believe, when considering general subjects, more students have problems with math than anything.

lol do tell. In that case, I have full faith in your capability of becoming a distinguished lawyer if you choose to follow such a path.

lol your doubt only increases my confidence...

face it: you have issues...get off the computer and seek help, oh wait, that would involve trusting the human race. Ya, you'd make a great lawyer with your hatred of people.
