Don't Know What to Major In!

Hi guys,

I hope this is the right place to post this (I have no clue lol). I’m in high school right now and have been thinking a lot about colleges recently (looking at top colleges.) But my problem is that I still have no idea what field I want to go into or what I want to do when I get older.

Currently I think that engineering would be a good fit for me but the problem is that I am not the best in science (still haven’t taken physics yet) but I am still pretty proficient in math. My critical thinking and problem solving skills are quite good which I believe would make me a good fit for engineering.

On the other hand, I love public speaking and interacting with others as well as being a leader of a group. I also think that my persuasive skills are pretty good and could help me out in this field.

But again I also like math a lot which would obviously be a good fit for finance, applied mathematics, or the like. The problem is that I don’t know how fulfilling this kind of work is because just from hearing about it, it sounds like just working a regular 9-5 job and just working in a cubicle. The kind of work I want is something that is fulfilling and makes me feel like I want to go to work everyday not necessarily for the money (though it could be an added bonus ;)).

As you can see I am pretty confused about all of this stuff and I was hoping that some of you guys could help and suggest majors, career paths, or job opportunities that I could look into.

Thanks,
Derek

"“I am still pretty proficient in math. My critical thinking and problem solving skills are quite good which I believe would make me a good fit for engineering.” - Problem solving skill are important for engineering. But so is physics. What kind of math have you taken/ liked?

I’ve taken Algebra II and am in Pre Calc currently (sophomore). I plan to take AP Physics I next year as well as Economics and Calc AB (we can’t skip)

You’ve got plenty of time to sort through this. See how you like AP Physics. You may be pleasantly surprised about how much math is involved.

BUMP

I applaud your zeal to plan ahead. But you are only a hs sophomore… no need to make further decisions until you’ve had more coursework. After you’ve had a taste of calc, you’ll know more. Good luck!
