Don't Tase me bro!

He definitely had it coming, I agree with everyone here who said that.

Was he drunk by any chance?

HA! Why stop at tasing? They should just shoot "stupid college students" huh Jack? Embarrass yourself with your ignorance and inhumane opinions some more. It's quite amusing to be reminded that there are people like you around. What are the police officer's rights hm? Did he pose an immediate threat to them? No. Police brutality is becoming too prevalent among college campuses. Tasering is just an excuse to not use a gun. If a police officer has the gut to taser a non-violent student, he or she has the gut to shoot that student should the opportunity arise. It is an absolutely disgusting display of abuse of authority. Disgusting.

instead of crying "dont tase me" maybe he should've stopped resisting the police. just judging from what i saw.

the police are in a no win situation.

How quickly have you kids forgot VT? Do you think the police are going to give any oddball behaving kid half a chance? What if the kid was packing, it's not like that hasn't happened before where a polictical figure is shot down at a public meeting....

How many of you a few weeks ago were demanding.. where were the cops at VT?

Short memmories guys... You don't think every campus police force has tightened up a bit since VT? Why take the chance when somebody displays such aggressive behavior?

They actually did him a favor by the taser, the alternative was to forceably carry his butt out of there. Then you have an real issue of brutality.

The cops couldn't win in this situation, they did the best they could do. I don't fault them at all.

The guy was completely stable the entire time. He just wanted some attention. He kept calling for help louder and louder, screaming all the time and resisting arrest when he got support. He got tased as a result. I'd be pretty annoyed if some jerkass kid came in, started drilling a major political figure, and then kept yelling 'what did I do' after I subdued him. It doesn't necessarily excuse the Tasering, but it certainly does provide context.

"Police brutality is becoming too prevalent among college campuses. Tasering is just an excuse to not use a gun."

You're completely right. Racially-motivated beatings and institutionalized authoritarian violence are exactly the same thing as giving this kid a quick zap to prevent him from taking his histrionics further and causing a crowded room to get out of control. Just like Attica, man. They gotta keep us down.

Can someone post the link or what to search in youtube?

http://youtube.com/watch?v=sE76LQwT6qA

Personally, I don't think he had freedom of speech in this situation, and he was resisting arrest, which is why he didn't receive his rights right away. I don't know if the taser was excessive though. It seemed like it, but we need to consider the other alternatives they had. I guess they could have just dargged him out of the auditorium, which would have been less brutal (I think).

Sorry, if I were in their shoes, I'd zap that kid into compliance rather than try to carry his butt out the door while he stuggles like a salmon on a line. Much easier on my back.

People are confused as hell about this. He wasn't arrested when he was speaking. Everyone here thinks when the cops started escorting him out they were arresting him....THIS IS NOT TRUE. They were escorting him out, he wasn't going to be arrested. It was once he started screaming/pushing cops that they decided to arrest him. It's not like he was "arrested' for asking questions, he was "escorted out" for going on and on, he wasn't "arrested" until he started shoving cops.

Once he became combative, and wouldn't allow the cops to cuff him (even when he was on the ground), he was open to be tasered. Hell he was warned "quit resisting or we will taser you." Yet he still resisted...

Also, to the person who asked about miranda rights: You don't get those until you are cuffed and under control....you think if a cop was scuffling with a driver over a gun he's gonna start reading him his rights? You get your rights once you're cuffed and under control.....use some common sense.

I'm glad to see most people hear agree that this guy deserved his tazering, people who complain "police brutality" either possess the wrong facts or are communists trying to get more hits at our police - Probally like this guy! Why else do you want to have yourself captured and tazered by the police? This guy WANTED to be tazered, and so tonight he got what he got. He wanted to get beaten up, carried away, making it look like as if this was a police state as he cried "HELP!!! IM BEING ARRESTED!!!" "OW OW OW OW OW OW" like a loony. I call him either loony or misinformed, but either way a danger at the moment to both the other students and senator kerry.

Quoted for truth. What if he had a weapon and we had another disaster on our hands? Then you guys would be blaming Bush and the police for not stopping the guy earlier.

The guy clearly wanted attention, he wanted his 15 minutes of fame and billion Facebook friends, he got them...and a Chidori to boot.

Miranda rights only apply in criminal cases. This was a civil disturbance.

And in criminal cases, Mirandas dont have to be read until right before you get booked and charged. its very common for the police to get some idiot to spill his guts to them in the cop car on the way to the station.

Sup bro? You in sig ep? Nice bro.

He deserved it. Now maybe he will stop acting like such a jerk.

he was not arrested for excercising his right to freedom of speech, but for resisting police. he was causing a disturbance before the tape began (which was why the police were standing behind him and monitoring him in the first place) and continued to do so despite efforts by kerry and the police to calm him down verbally. in the video, you can actually see/hear some students applauding as he was taken out of the room simply because they were tired of his antics.

There is more to the story and basically it was his fault. You can read my opinions there.

I don't see the validity of the "police brutality" crap people have been spewing... He was tazed because if he was resisting arrest, which would allow a golden opportunity to try to stop and taze you if possible... That punk got what he deserved.

There's nothing that bothers me worse than bleeding-heart liberal college students like this kid. He bursts into a room screaming and asking pretty blunt questions. Who does he think he is? I'm just sorry they didn't break out the nightsticks instead of the taser.
