Don't want the loan...

Daughter finally received her f.a. letter today. She was surprised to see that part of her package is $4254 in "Unsub Stafford" loan. The other awards are scholarships that she knew she was getting. Obviously, she wants to accept the scholarships, but does not want this loan. Does she need to do anything other than NOT go through loan processing? (Sorry for the newbie question -- this is my first and only kid!)

Also, is it typical that award letters arrive before tuition is set for the next year? (This is a state U.) They caution that the scholarship amounts are "estimates"...

You can still receive other grants and scholarships (without going through an accepting process) and still not accept any loans by not going through the accepting process for said loans.

Very typical. In our state the tuition and fees are never set before June or later and the FA letters usually come out in March/April.
