Doomed by Your High School?

As a Junior this year being in all AP Classes with Seniors, i got an up-close look at the college admissions process without actually being involved in it.
and as seniors have been telling me, our school seems to be hated or cursed or some form of the above. although regarded highly( top 200 public school in the country) we seem to be overlooked, near purposely at the most selective schools. There hasnt been a Harvard Admit in 4 years, Princeton in the same, and Yale in 3. This years class was bombared with 8 cornell-to be kids and 1 dartmouth but being that the school is in ny suburb i guess its not that prestigious. do you think this spells a bad thing for me this coming year? or is this common for schools of my type. the thigns ive been hearing of comparable schools lead me to believe otherwise

First off, what is your high school? NYC area is pretty competitive

how exactly doy find out if your in a top 200 high scool. People here always post that but how do you know?

^by top 200 i meant ' US News's bad system of rating the high school'
and its not nyc its l.i

newsweek also has a ranking. but it's ridiculous because a school's ranking fluctuates like crazy (hah, you think US news is bad?). but people will always look for their school and say "oh my school is ranked ###." my personal opinion is that the rankings do not hold true in real life (as far as california high schools go, the rankings are pretty off), but then again, i personally think the methodology is flawed too.

okay regardless of rankings my school is on par with schools that do have a lot of these ivy admits, so i was thinking hmm somethin most be wrong cuz its not the students theyre all the same

I thought our school was cursed at one point also. 30 years since a Harvard admit, 20 since an MIT, 15 since a Princeton... I don't know what it is, just try your best. I was still accepted to Harvard and MIT even though our school seemed "cursed".

encouragin story on the real, that means theres hope and 30 yrs is quite the long time

I really wouldn't complain, the vast majority of high schools have never seen as HYPSM admit. Having three in 4 years is much more than normal. Maybe I'm just disgruntled though as I live in rural norcal.

the last person to go to ivy league from my school was this nerd who was val and retoke the SAT 4 times cause she keep getting a 1590...so yeah i hate this place

Well, I've got a friend whose parents moved so that he could go to a more competitive high school that got more kids into good schools. (Mine had a history of sending kids to CSU's and that's about it). Lo and behold, our year's sending kids to Harvard, Stanford, Brown, Berkeley, UCLA. So it's really the quality of the kids, not the school, and I think that to a large extent it comes down to personality (did you write good essays? did you found a club or a project or do something exceptional to show your talent or passion for something? stuff like that) rather than to a particular high school.

ffs, no one in my school's 20+ years of history, has ever gone to HYP. Stop complaining, and create your own opportunities. If you don't get in, it's your fault, don't blame it on the school

^chill the **** out, all i was askin was if such a trend meant anything like other people had seen it happen in their school, and apparently thats so thats all i was askin
