Post your favorites and which ones you consider to be dorm "staples"

When I lived in a dorm, I had a mild addiction to the Annie Chung meal bowls. The dining hall sold them, so you could just use the meal plan and stock up on days when you don’t feel like walking to the dining hall (usually during the regular blizzards)

The peanut noodle ones were really good.

I also had another addiction to diet Sunkist (oddly enough, I hated the regular Sunkist. It tastes weird.)

I had a huge stash of those in my dorm too.

I think I’m like the only college student who doesn’t eat Ramen noodles. I had a bad experience and can’t eat them.
When I was 8-ish, my babysitter made me Ramen (which used to be my favorite food.)
one night she cooked it for me, a few hours later I threw up from them.
A decade later, and I still can’t eat them. The smell makes me nauseas.

I just realized I’m rambling. Sorry.

I haven’t seen college students eating ramen, except maybe late at night when the cafeteria’s closed. Seriously, unless you can’t afford it, get a dining plan.

I HATE ramen. It’s not any more difficult to microwave a real can of soup, and not much more expensive, either.

Ramen can actually fill you up though. You can drink a gallon of soup and still be hungry.

Easy Mac!

Also:

Hot chocolate
Tea
Soups (the microwavable bowls – more expensive, but the convenience makes it worth it)
Crackers
Fresh fruit
Peanut butter

I’m not in college yet, I’m in High school, but I don’t have a lunch so I have to pack my own and eat in class.
I usually eat some sort of crackers or granola bar, fruit, and occasionally a sandwich.
It’s really inconvienent not being able to heat things up or store them in a fridge, or even if I had access to those I don’t have much time to cook or prepare my lunch since I have like 5 minutes to get to class.

My one cousin who is in college lives at home so he cooks most of his meals, ah the comfort of home.

I like how this thread into a freaking Ramen debate…

Apparently it’s srsbsnss.

Anyway.
I also made use CampusFood.com kind of often. Usually for Chinese food since I could never understand what they said over the phone.

Drinks
A case of bottled water
Tea
Diet soda
Orange juice – or whatever kind of juices you prefer; I like apple =)
Milk

Foods
Microwavable meals (usually soups or those pasta bowls)
Slices of bread
Pretzels
Cereal bars
Condiments for bread (Peanut butter + Jelly; mayo; cheese)
Popcorn (microwavable – just make sure you don’t overpop or you’ll get that burn smell)
Goldfish (well not a necessity, but I love them!)
Cookies!

^ Speaking of burnt popcorn, I noticed there are large number of students who can’t make popcorn without setting off a fire alarm (at least in my old college.)

4am fire alarms and standing in 2ft of snow. Fun times.

My list of food and drinks looks oddly similar to what you’d expect from a young child, but at least it’s pretty healthy.

Drinks:
Milk (I drink a lot of milk since I don’t drink pop/soda, coffee, or tea)
100% Fruit Juice
Lemonade
Water

Foods:
Goldfish ftw
Cheerios
Applesauce
Fresh Fruit
Canned Fruit
Frozen Fruit
Frozen Vegetables
Chicken Nuggets
Soft Candy Mints
Frozen Lasagna
Cookies/Angel Food Cake/Banana Bread from Home
Instant Pudding Mix

canned soups

fruits n veggies

sandwiches

pasta, ravioli, lasagna, pizza

salads (turkey salad, chicken salad, tuna salad, etc - meat makes it more filling)

any Lean Cuisine meal

mashed potatoes

chicken cutlets

pot roast (well, I made it twice)

fish (salmon mostly)

pudding, yogurt, nuts, granola bars, any packaged snack really

My favorite meal is baked chicken with mashed potatoes but I don’t cook it much because it takes time. Also I love pasta salads - I usually mix pasta, red kidney beans, black beans, chopped celery and radishes, all whipped in Mayo. You can toss in pretty much any veggies you like with pasta and it’ll taste good. Also tuna or mackeral sometimes.

A couple of things that I’ve seen this year that you should NEVER do with Easy Mac

Substitute Busch Light (or any beer probably) in place of water.

Also remember to put water in your Easy Mac before putting it in the microwave. (Roommate forgot and nearly burned the whole place down haha)

You don’t need bottled water…you need a water filter and a water bottle. It’s cheaper and better for the planet.

holly crap platsburghloser! I had the same experience! When I was a little kid I got sick after eating ramen noodles and to this very day just the smell makes me nauseous.

tap water isnt bad at all.

if i didn’t eat enough at the dining hall, i just use the vending machine. i never really see a need for constantly keeping food in your own room. just eat a bit more at each meal?

You beat me to it. I bought a large supply of bottled water, the first month of my freshman year. Then I went to one of my friend’s rooms and he had a Brita water pitcher in his refrigerator. I just said to myself “why didn’t I think of that?” I never bought bottled water for my room after that day.

I can’t drink the tap water at my school. I live in the middle of nowhere, so I’ve grown up drinking well water…and my school has city water which to me tastes like chlorine and iron (YUCK). So I either have to have bottled or a filter.

I’m sick of dining hall food (this is my second semester here) so I got a reduced meal plan and also I found that I eat less when I “make” my own food, so I lost the 8 lbs I gained during my first semester.

drinks:
milk
iced tea
chocolate soymilk
water (brita filter=awesome)
tea
malaysian milk tea
milo/hot chocolate

food:
fresh fruit
an assortment of cheese (my roommate and i have this odd obsession with cheese…)
ritz whole wheat crackers!!
seasonal oreos =P
malaysian/japanese/singaporean ramen
a lot of instant oatmeal
cinnamon toast crunch
canned soup (so easy and cheap when you get them on sale! i got the huge campbell’s to-go ones for like .99 each)

smore-making supplies (chocolate, graham crackers, marshmallows!)

of course i don’t have a kitchen so i have to be more creative with making food using only a microwave, and i also secretly bought a rice cooker which is soooo convenient!
my roommate swears by easy mac and i believe in grubhub.com for those lazy times!
