Dorm life: expectations and nudity

@zxcvbnmlp I just make sure I have long pants on or in easy reach (I’m in western Mass so even in the summer it is cold at night). The jacket I used the day before usually is on a hook on my closet door, and I throw on whatever shoes are around. Just make sure whatever you wear to bed is something you would not be embarrassed to have other people see you in.

Thanks so much guys for the fire drill stuff! Any other pieces of advice? I would appreciate any of it!

Every dorm (and even every floor, really) has a different personality so you’ll just have to scout out what it’s like. But in my experience, after a while people realize how they’re gonna be spending the whole year with the same people on the floor so people tend to just not really be too modest after a couple of weeks; most people will wear bathrobes to and from the showers, but people will also just wrap up in a towel or even occasionally just walk to and from the bathroom in nothing but their birthday suit (the latter one is rare but it’s happened). As far as changing in the room goes, I mean, you’re going to be with your roommate for the whole year so just get used to changing in front of them. My roommate and I change in front of each other all the time; it’s not like either of us stares at the other while we’re changing but it’s not like you have to go stand in the closet to change.

Definitely have a bathrobe or something in case you need to go outside for a fire drill or something at an ungodly hour or surprise fire drill when you’re naked. At the beginning of the year we had our first fire drill and even though it was planned and everyone knew about it, sure enough one guy comes walking out of the building in nothing but a towel because he was in the shower at the time. It happens. Be prepared.
