With the rising cost of air travel, it may become too expensive for those students who live very far away from Brandeis to go home for every holiday or break. Does anyone know if the dorms stay open for those students over Thanksgiving and other breaks? If so, do the dining halls remain open too?

I am a rising junior who lives overseas - dorms are open over Thanksgiving, 1 week February break and and spring/Passover break. Dining is open during those times but can quite limited, especially over Thanksgiving I think it generally shuts down completely on the Thursday I think. But people do stay over Thanksgiving (I generally stay with relatives on the East coast) and will food from local supermarkets/restaurant since it's relatively easy to access those from Brandeis. Most residence halls are not open during winter break. As an upperclassmen if you live in the Charles River apartments (apartment style housing that is not on the main campus), and I believe also the apartments on 567 South Street and the Foster Mods apartments, you can stay over Winter Break, I think. There are also special arrangements for Community Advisors in Residence Halls over Winter break I think. Over the summer there is transitional and summer housing:
Department of Residence Life | Brandeis University
Department of Residence Life | Brandeis University | Forms
But again, dining would be severely limited during winter and summer breaks.
