Dorms suck

I don't buy this commuting sucks thing. I would love to live at home. It's much more comfy than any dorm or apartment. Plus, I love where I live and the location of my college is so ho-hum.

i don't mind dorms but i don't like them either. i'm in a studio apartment with a roommate so its basically like a dorm with a bathroom/kitchen. i wanna move out of campus next year... And have a single room for the first time in 4-5 years? gahh i miss privacy!! (that I never apparently had)

Just a casual 5 year bump.

I love living in the dorms (though that’s probably because my dorm is in a suite-style arrangement–in fact, all the rooms in the dorm building I’m in are suite-styled). The RA on my floor doesn’t really care what we do, as long as we’re not breaking rules (the residents in one of the rooms on my floor even built a canopy over the couch in their living room using leftover lofting materials, and the RA thought it was really cool, even though he thought it was a bad idea). He sometimes stables info stuff to the bulletin board on our doors, but doesn’t force us to come. Another pro is that my dorm is away from the main campus (Segundo and Tercero are located on the main campus, Cuarto is not), so going back to the dorms is kind of like going home. My roommates are also really awesome, so that’s also another reason why I love living in the dorms.

If living in the dorms wasn’t so expensive, I’d live there again next year (btw, I’m not a freshman, I’m a junior transfer student)

The dorm food at my school is also pretty good, IMO.

UCD students also have the option of living in on-campus apartments, though (but I’m not sure if this is available to freshmen. I know it’s available for transfer students, though).

I don’t care so much about the actual rooms. I just hate the fact that I’m liable for other peoples’ actions while living in the dorms. Some idiots mess something up and don’t get caught? Entire hall pays for the damage.

I’d love it if I could afford to live off campus, but the housing in the area is so expensive.

^ this. I remember last year when someone went around and stole all of the peep holes out of the dorm doors. I was not there at the time (i was at home), and i still got fined.

I have single and it has an air conditioner in the window. I like it.
It’s the noise I can’t stand. The RAs are so loud. I hate being kept up until 2am.
There’s a lot of annoying people who try to bother my dog, but that’s usually the weekends when they’re all drunk.

Wow.

This thread was started before the recession.

I envy OP, with his innocence and his iPhone 1 and the release of “Juno”.

My RA was a pain sometimes. She was fastly becoming BFFs with Satan, aka my roommate and would barge into the suite whenever she felt like it.

Gladly commuting again. Dorming blows.
