Dorms?

I’m curious… I visited Amherst last October and absolutely loved the campus. I know they were doing a lot of construction concerning the dorms, but how are the living conditions as they are? I know lots of options are available, but how are the dorms straight out? Squished or spaceous (for a dorm room)? Also, what about bathrooms… if I live in a coed hall, what are the bathroom situations?
Thanks so much!

Moved D into her dorm and visited a few. The rooms are wonderful, overall. They are roomy and spacious. The new James and Stearns are really like palaces! Some still need some work, but all in all, the freshman got the best, most wonderful dorms! What I saw was that they didn't just slap on some paint and recarpet - they were renovating to keep the architectural integrity, but updating everything, as well. Copper around the dormers in the dorm they are working on now. Very safety conscious, as well. By far the nicest dorms we saw on any of our tours.

I only visited, but we got to go into a freshman dorm. I don't remember what hall we visited, but was amazing. Clean, pretty spacious, and updated. You had the option of turning your bed into a loft bed so that you'd have more floor space. I visited 13 colleges, and Amherst had the best freshman dorms, by far.

I stayed in a frosh dorm at Amherst for two nights in October. It was absolutely fantastic and one of my major selling points for the school. I stayed in James I believe(not quite sure) and the floors inside the dorms were carpetted. The floors in the hallways and common rooms were hard wood and the furniture was pretty nice. The rooms were very spacious for dorms and one girl even had a queen size bed. All in all, I thought the dorms were fantastic. I don't quite remember whether the bathrooms were coed or not but they were really nicely cared for either way.

I'm pretty sure you would remember if you were showering next to guy... I really don't think Amherst has coed bathrooms, no worries.

D said that the freshman dorms have one guys and one girl's bathroom on each floor. She isn't sure about the upperclass dorms. She will be in a theme house next year, and there she may have to share, because it's a former frat house. But sometimes they vote on which floor will be guys and which will be girls.
