I have a few questions about dorms at ND
First, do all freshman have doubles?
Also, which dorms are female engineering dorms? I heard there were five but i don’t know which those are. I know McGlinn is one.

My DD is a Freshman engineering student. She is in a triple room in Pasquerilla East
There are no specific dorms for engineering or any other discipline. All housing is random. Freshmen will either be in doubles, triples, or quads (2 bedrooms connected by a common room). There are also a few six person rooms.
I just got back from my visit and was told that female engineers were the only group that are not random. They purposely put all female engineers in certain dorms to increase the ratio of engineers to non-engineers to what a male dorm would have. Apparently this has been very successful in retaining female engineers. I was also told that this is entirely under the radar (not officially released) but is very obvious once you get to campus as nearly all female engineers are from the same 5 dorms. I know McGlinn is one, like I said, and I remember that one of the Pasquerillas is as well (must be East) but I do not remember the others.
I’m not positive, but I think the female engineering dorms are McGlinn, PE, Farley, Lyons, and Welsh Family.
When do we find out our classes and roommates? Do they release the names of our roommate to us?
Thank you Irish Dance! I know I was told at one point but I had forgotten. Personally I am hoping for McGlinn, Lyons, or Welsh Fam, but that’s just because I love South/West Quad. Whatever I get though, I will just be thrilled to be at ND.
Little Pavs: It says on the FYS FAQ we will get dorm assignments by email in early July and we don’t actually register for classes ourselves, our adviser will for us. Check out the FYS website for a lot of these kind of answers. http://firstyear.nd.edu/ And I believe they do tell us our roommates because I stayed with a couple students this weekend and they acted like they had talked prior to moving in.
so last year they were leaked on july 4th, then officially came our like the 8th or 11th (some people changed, i got swapped from a quad to a double). Your dorm placement is random, but dorm placement isn’t random: dorms are made to be geographically diverse, and the only exception by major is that some women’s dorms are made to be engineering heavy(as stated above). They’ll release the names of your roommates when you get your room schedule. also, there are two types of quads: large four person rooms, and two doubles connected by a common room. They vary from dorm to dorm.
