I thought I'd make a thread for all of us to ask questions about the dorms and living situation. Also, what type of things should we bring along with us.

Here are my questions:

So i thought I heard on the little virtual tour video of the dorms that Pepperdine gives each room a little mini frig/freezer and microwave free of charge. Can anyone confirm if this is true or false. (maybe i heard it wrong).

Also, do rooms have air conditioning? If not, do you think it will get hot enough to need a fan?

And one last one: Is there staff that cleans the bathrooms? If not, will cleaning supplies be provided or should i make sure to bring some?

The dorms are not air conditioned. You would only need a fan for a week or two in September when the Santa Ana winds blow from the east, but even then it isn't really necessary. Because of the location by the ocean, it never gets too hot.

When we took a tour a year ago, the tour guide said that the school takes care of cleaning the bathrooms, but the housing contract for Fall 2009 on the website says that residents are responsible for cleaning bathrooms.

That was helpful.
But i read the section about cleaning from the second URL and to me it sounds like there is housekeeping for the bathrooms, but the residents have to keep in genrally clean. Because, it said "A charge may be assessed to all residents of a given suite, residence hall, room, or apartment if University housekeeping staff must clean an excessively dirty public or private living area or if the housekeeping staff is not able to perform standard cleaning. "

but maybe that doesnt include bathrooms.

I just want to know if I should bring cleaning supplies...

I've always brought a fan, and use it quite a bit in the begining of the school year, definitely for longer than just a week or two (though some rooms are warmer than others).

Housekeeping comes through a few times a week to clean the bathrooms and vacuum public areas, so you don't really need to bring cleaning supplies.

My D brought Lysol wipes, just for little clean ups if necessary, but otherwise the cleaning was pretty good. She did need a fan. Her first year she had a lot of sun on her windows and it got warm, but it usually cooled at night with the evening ocean breeze (very nice!).
