Ok so I hate CC but I felt the need to start a thread just for USC. I’m looking at admits posted pics & crying because I need an admittance letter so badly. Anyone else internally dying?
Very much internally dying. All of my friends know where they’re going to school and I won’t even know if my top choice will accept me for another few months!!
I’m only now just noticing that teacher recs aren’t required!!! I couldn’t imagine why this would be…
I’m applying to Dornsife too!!! My grades are def below what USC wants but I took 8 AP’s so maybe that’ll help?? Not sure haha but worth a shot! Anyone applying to Dornsife should post their stats!
Hey y’all, I’m also a Dornsife 2020 hopeful.
Here are my stats:
SAT: 2130 (very concerned about this score, I’m not a great test taker)
GPA: weighted 4.41 on a 4.0 scale (my school doesn’t provide unweighted GPAs)
Previous APs: AP Euro (3–did not send) AP Gov (5) APUSH (5) AP Lang. & Comp. (5) AP Environmental Sci (4–I know this is low for environmental) AP Spanish Lang and Culture (4)
Current senior courses: AP Psych, AP Literature, AP Art History, AP Macroeconomics, and a post-AP Spanish film studies course that is given AP “status” at my school and is considered an extremely rigorous class, CP pre-calculus
Awards/Honors:
-induction into an slightly more selective academic honors society for private schools (don’t want to name the society for confidentiality/privacy reasons)
-induction into National Honor Society
-AP Scholar w distinction
-school wide award for the best essay and English student in junior class
-Presidential service award
-local community service award, pretty competitive as only 1 student gets it from each high school
-3 years of 1st place awards at a local writing competition
-3 years of National Spanish Exam awards
-several “honors in course” awards (having the highest average in class)
ECs:
-over 370 hours volunteering in national park introducing under served urban youth to nature over the past 3 summers
-part of a youth leadership group that was started by the National Park Service to help promote youth involvement and community engagement in national parks (huge time commitment, extremely involved in hiking, backpacking, etc.)
-presented a lecture to local Sierra Club chapter on my involvement in the national park and how communities and different demographics connect with nature
-at least 250 hours tutoring kids for several different local organizations…I’ve tutored inner city kids, kids I the foster care system, and am currently tutoring refugee students
-interviewed on local TV about youth involvement in national park
-member of a pretty competitive local youth leadership group
-captain of my schools varsity swim team
-Head editor of my school’s literary arts magazine
-President of Fellowship of Christian Athletes
-Peer counselor
-writing tutor at my school
End goal: I’m basically trying to enter into the field of human rights advocacy and this is largely motivated by the time I spend tutoring and relationship building with under served kids in my community, especially the refugee children. So I applied to the “NGOs and Social Change” major and the International Relations major.
Miscellaneous: I go to a pretty competitive secular private school in the south, brother currently in Dornsife at USC (he perhaps could mention something to admissions but doubt he will—also doubt this will have any effect on my chances), from a lesser-represented southern state (I think ?)
